Josh Duckworth was raised in a small town in Maryland. Growing up, Josh was very active in high school sports. Though he showed amazing talent and potential, he felt plagued by the expectations of his father who was a former marine AND Josh's wrestling coach. His father also struggled with mental health and substance abuse issues on and off throughout life.
Anxiety, peer pressure and feelings of inadequacy led Josh to abuse marijuana and alchohol. By the time he was 18, he had graduated to the hardest, he was addicted to heroin.
Once while using in a bathroom at home, his father walked in on him and begged Josh to shoot him up. This began a near deadly spiral of dysfunctional bonding between father and son that nearly cost them all...
Josh is now married with a young son and enjoys a sober, clean life. He runs "An addict named Josh", dedicated to addiction advocacy. He and his father, Lawson, "Duck" Duckworth, often share their story of descent and redemption, together.
